Story of Primers

It all started in the 1960's, when a new virus arose: a virus, which by and large attacked and in some cases mutated the genetic code of its victim - its primary target being DNA strand.

Unable to withstand the genetic changes the virus brought about, adults who became infected soon died from it while contaminated children - not yet fully developed in neither body nor mind - did not. The adaptable nature of youngsters spared them their lives.
Some time after the infection the DNA of the carrier children had underwent a noticeable change. The young eventually gained odd abilities, becoming mutants in their own right. Naturally, this shocked the adult world deeply. The news spread with mass media like a forest fire, causing both panic and pain to the people affected as well as those who had gone untouched by the happenings.

Subsequently the government covered up the proof of the virus’ existence and gathered the infected children, addressing them as "Primers". Slowly, the alarm subsided and the chaos was soon forgotten. But, this didn’t mean it was gone. Behind closed doors, carefully watched by government eyes, were the Primer labs in which experiments were made daily and still is. Parents had been told to forget about their children and the friends to the afflicted had been enforced to forget them in one way or another.

Although this was many years ago, many years of experiments and studies, the virus still has no cure. However, an age limit of lethality has been set through research. Would the virus infect anyone older than nineteen, their genes will reject the virus, which will ultimately kill its host. The DNA of those younger than nineteen, however, will not reject the virus; thus allowing the change.

Today, the virus is unknown throughout the world. Therefore, the ones who somehow become infected are quickly taken away from their ordinary lives in order to become a part of the research or, perhaps, a new hope for a cure.

As you would expect, the children who are taken away far from appreciate this treatment.

The story of the primers has consequently become a fight between elders and youth. But not all Primers rebel. Some of them end up working for the Government, their task being either to kill any rouge Primers who have escaped from the labs or to assist in the search for a cure.
